For Macs and using Seagate as an external backup drive with Time Machine. (1) Be sure to open the "Mac" installer link after connecting the driver. (2) The web link takes you to the product registration website (do it) and also offers you many other trial products - ignore them and then close the webpage. In the meantime you should receive an email that you have successfully registered your new Seagate product! (3) Try to start Time Machine with the newly selected driver. It may ask you to REMOVE THE HARD DRIVE - sounds intimidating, but do it! Then try running the Time Machine backup again. (4) If you still get a FORMATTING driver error (NOT FORMATTED FOR MAC etc.), just extract it, remount it and try again. So mine worked fine in the end. (5) Note that it takes more than 5 HOURS to create a new backup of your data. So be patient as the progress bar will remain blank ("Preparing backup") for a very long time before it starts chugging and counting megabytes.
