This lighter works right out of the box. However, I don't think the child safety feature is that good. It's not like some actual lighters I own that require some coordination to press the button and pull the trigger at the same time. We just have to slide the button and then press the button. It is very easy to accidentally press the button. It's also easy to leave the slide button in the on position for any child to start a fire, intentionally or accidentally. Although I don't have children I could see how improper storage could accidentally start a fire by saying it was in a pocket and the clasp was on and the button pressed so be careful! Precisely because I have to be careful with storage, I removed the star. Actually I'm chatting and really think it's 3.5 stars.
