Review on Premium Warm Audio WA-47jr Large Diaphragm Condenser Microphone Nickel: Unparalleled Sound Quality and Elegance by Felicia Evans

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High Quality LDC Clean Clear

When I first saw the Warm Audio brand name I giggled sarcastically thinking their mics sound warm. I needed a high-quality, multi-channel, large-diaphragm condenser microphone from a well-known manufacturer at a relatively low price. Everyone knows AKG, so I went with the P420 ($199). It's well built and the price was spot on for my budget/needs. After a few weeks the sound quality got a little nasal, after which I heard a few pops/pops on playback. Time cannot be wasted on an important recording project, so the mic that kept popping up after searching was the Warm Audio WA 47jr. At $299, that's a little more than I was willing to spend, but the next best mic was the AKG C214 ($349). The more I read about Warm Audio and their philosophy, I closed my eyes and clicked buy now. No regret. The WA 47jr is built like a tank, made of high quality materials, looks crisp, but best of all, the sound is as clear as silk, clear as mountain spring water and quiet as a chess game. There's nothing 'JR' in it. It's heavy, so don't use a cheap mic boom. I record piano, violin and cello in combination with a ribbon microphone for stereo A/B and X/Y. Many comment that this is a great mic for the price. It's a great mic phase. Speaking of price, as of this writing it's on sale at Revain for $249, which is a bargain. The usual $299 is still a steal for the quality of the mic and the good price that includes a high quality custom mount and additional straps. I wish it came with a case but I keep it in a branded box that has good insulation/foam. Warm Audio doesn't make cheap copies of legendary microphones. They make high-quality replicas using boutique materials to make microphones at affordable prices, especially for musicians and engineers who don't want to spend $1,000. This is not a "budget" microphone. Highly recommended.
