Review on Powerful Marina Hagen CF20 Canister Filter: Optimal Filtration for Aquariums by Michelle Meyer

but so far I have been very happy with my CF80

CF80 - Be sure to cover the impeller with Vaseline (PJ) before running the filter for the first time. I spent a couple of hours trying to get the canister filter to work, gave up and then started scouring the internet to find out how to fix my CF80. I found a forum that mentioned adding a small amount of PJ to the wheel during regular maintenance so I figured I had nothing to lose and gave it a try. As soon as I covered the PJ wheel, the device worked flawlessly right away. I currently have a CF80 filtering up to 20G. I have some quibbles about the tubes that come with them and their sizes. I'm in the process of replacing the supplied tubing with PVC, but so far I'm very happy with my CF80. The first few times I tried to open the canister after it was full I made a big mess, but I learned to close the water inlet valve until I couldn't see any water coming out of the outlet line. Once this happens, I turn off the device and unlock the motor with a few drops of water. This made capturing installed media in the CF80 easy and with minimal mess or frustration.
