These clamps solve the problem of connecting a flexible pipe with a flange. Band clamps do not seal well because the helical reinforcement wire in the channel is always under one part of the clamp, causing the adjacent part of the joint to leak. Because these clamps have two guy wires, they can be positioned so that the two guy wires cross the rebar at different points. Thus, any potential leak is blocked in one way or another. When attaching the yoke, care must be taken that each of the tension wires only crosses the reinforcement wire once and that the two crossing points are well separated along the flange diameter. To do this, the yoke can be positioned to wrap around the rebar on the clamp bolt and the clamp wires can be moved slightly apart on the opposite side to adjust where each wire crosses the rebar. I also like the other design of the Powertec hose clamp 4" Wire Reinforced Air Duct POWERTEC 70195 Double Loop Quick Release Hose Clamp 4" 2pcs but apparently not available in the 6 inch version. Either of these two types is much more effective and convenient than band clamps for hoses or ducts reinforced with thick spiral wire.
