Like all the other reviewers, I inherited the boxes (and boxes) of slides. For me, the digitization of these slides is a multi-stage process. Being able to preview slides before digitizing is one of the most important steps and I have two older viewers, both of which are unreliable. Batteries have leaked in each and one only works for my husband. When I saw this viewer it just sang my name, especially since I don't really have a powerful table lamp to light my slides and negatives with. This viewer offers both, with a slot on the side to insert 35mm negatives. , and a slot for slides on the top. This requires a 6V AC/DC power supply or 4 AA batteries, none of which are included. I went the battery route and the lighting is pretty bright. I've never seen a slide viewer throw slides into a trap and it does - it's a nice feature. I managed to get stuck on the third slide, which luckily I was able to remove after a few tense moments, but I'd advise being very careful as I don't think either of us have duplicate media. And being able to see the negatives is a really nice bonus. For this money is not bad.
