The differential itself is great. It's amazing how unnoticed until then.

The differential itself is amazing. It's amazing how subtle it is until you need it. No disadvantages of a breakfast locker, but many advantages. I drive my truck pretty hard sometimes, even on the road and cornering it behaves like an open differential until the inside slips. You only feel it briefly when the power emerges and pulls you along. No crazy jams or wheel hops, chirps or anything else that would upset the balance, it just stays nice and smooth and stays in control. Love it, even in the rain it improves normal daily driving if you occasionally miss a spin when cornering with too much throttle or climbing a tight corner. It works wonders off-road and in light snow, it's so transparent and pulls you through most things pretty well. You can easily place both left tires on ice or dirt on the side of the road and go off with just the right one, as intended. Definitely helps maintain speed in low grip conditions. Be sure to purchase new carrier bearings and a shim kit (a Yukon kit works well with a Yukon (SK SS12) Super Carrier Shim kit). You will definitely need a carrier bearing press as it is a tight fit. I wouldn't risk damaging the bearing by trying to use a hammer. It takes 2 minutes with a good jab, so even if you need a shop or a mate to do it, it's worth it. The gears and the ABS ring of the old carrier were relatively easy to loosen with a hammer and stand and can be screwed onto the new carrier with screws easily and without pressure. A bit of grease or Prussian blue will help mark the gears to ensure proper alignment, as well as a game indicator. I changed the axle bearings and seals at the same time, they were easy to pull out with a hammer even on my old truck. A new differential cover and gasket isn't a bad idea either, they're cheap. I did not touch the gears or the front parts of the differential. I think it took me about 4 hours to complete and I was surprised at how quick and easy everything went.
