There is very little counter space in my house. I was fed up with my coffee maker taking up so much space on my precious desk, so I decided to try out some compact options that easily tucked away in my equally limited closet space. I first tried switching to a small French Press. I liked coffee but absolutely HATE cleaning it up and also hated the fact that I had to heat the water in another vessel. Then I tried AeroPress. Another great cup of coffee, but very messy, a bit complex, and all too often my coffee was thick. I then tried the single pour manual Melita coffee maker and the coffee was VERY weak. I then bought MyJo and developed a love-hate relationship with it (although 6 months later I still use it as my main coffee brewing method). LOVE - Coffee tastes good when the water is very hot (FYI I use a dark roast because I like it strong). - Water can be heated in the microwave straight into the MyJo jar - no kettle needed! - Easy to clean*. most of time. (*see exception to this below) -Very compact and easy to store -Great for traveling -You can use your own ground coffee in the included plastic K-Cup basket or pre-filled K-Cups for easy brewing and cleanupHATE-* The most annoying Here: All too often, the rubber seal on the bottom comes loose during brewing and the coffee grounds get into the chamber. Luckily, the filter in the K-Cup keeps coffee grounds from getting into the coffee cup, but creates a mess in the chamber. However, it's still not as difficult to clean as a French Press or an Aeropress. Not only does the seal loosen during brewing, sometimes it doesn't seal properly, even if you just fill it with water and then leak. everywhere, everywhere, everywhere. To make sure it doesn't leak you really have to press on that seal, but even then sometimes it still leaks and you have to pour it out and try again. Very annoying. Luckily that doesn't happen all the time. It takes a lot of force to push the vacuum plunger (but you'll find your best technique after the first few tries. I use 2 hands). You must have a really strong coffee cup to brew this. Verdict: This little coffee maker is a great idea with a few design flaws, the biggest of which is the silicone seal. It makes a great cup of coffee, is fairly easy to use after the first two uses, and is also easy to clean if the liner hasn't come loose. PRESTO: If you are reading this, you are asking the product developers to work on a sealing issue. There are other reviews on the same topic here. If they come out with a new and improved model with a sealed gasket that stays in place during brewing, I will definitely buy the new model and I'm sure others will too. My 3 stars could easily become 5 stars if this problem were fixed.
