These filters are quite different from the Miele filters we use. The sealing lip is new and self-sealing, and the filter itself uses "nine filter stages, improved airflow, high-strength mesh and up to 30% improved performance and design over its predecessor", according to Miele. The filter itself seems to be bulkier and the box is actually bigger (deeper) even holding only 4 filters compared to the box which had 5 filters of the previous design. In normal use, I'm not sure if the difference in filtering is noticeable, but I accept their claim that they made the filters better. The collar improvement looks significant and should help prevent leaks when changing filters, so it's a welcome change, although we haven't had a major issue in that regard. The box contains four filters plus one smaller filter each for motor protection. and an AirClean filter. As mentioned, the number of filters is one less than what we've been used to in the past - filters we've bought previously (from Williams Sonoma and these were the current original Miele filters available at the time) and filters came in a box of five. Filters plus the same two smaller filters. Smaller filters will need to be cut to fit our specific vacuum with scissors, but that's fine. I've noticed other reviewers mention universal filters that are available for less money. I can believe the Miele hype but I chose to buy these filters and trust their claims of better filtration and probably a better design overall. I want as much dust as possible to be trapped in the filter and not thrown back into the room, and for these reasons a few bucks more to buy these filters is fine with me. We bought a Miele vacuum in the first place to get a higher quality unit so I will use their filters as well unless I'm absolutely sure another brand was just as good. I haven't tried other options, can't tell if they're better or worse, it's just my personal preference.
