Review on πŸ”§ GearWrench 2-Piece Fan Clutch Pulley Holder Set for 6.0L Ford Powerstroke - Model 3950 by Anthony Gupta

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Huge time saver, best performance in drivetrain and transmission

I needed to replace the fan clutch on my Ford 6.0 PowerStroke 04 engine - I'm glad I bought this kit. I had to unscrew the upper radiator brackets, tilt them forward, remove the fan shroud, and then loosen the four screws holding the internal plastic fan air deflector that sits between the fan and motor. Once you lean forward you should be able to get the thin part of the wrench around the fan clutch hex shaft. The wrench has a 1/2" square hole in the end of the handle and I inserted a 1/2" pry bar to give it a little more leverage. The other tool in the kit is a grappling hook that you hold on the left side of the fan pulley to keep it from spinning while you're loosening the fan clutch. around the perimeter of the fan pulley. It's a standard counter-clockwise thread, a loosened nut, so left-handed, and should be tightened really, really hard in there, so the wrench will probably need to be repositioned a few times, but eventually it will come loose by hand. You don't need this tool to install a new clutch, it should just be turned by hand and the motor reverse will hold it in place - god help you next time you remove the fan clutch again if you decide to wrench it when with a wrench to tighten Reassembly - there are many other accessories and bolts on the 6.0 that are pretty hard to come by with the bodywork in the engine bay, don't complicate your easy job in the future! I highly recommend this time saving toolkit, now it takes me less than 30 minutes to remove the fan. I had to use it twice which makes it a lot easier to install a new belt or remove engine accessories. A note: this key fits snugly onto the fan clutch shaft. I replaced the 7.3 mechanical fan clutch with an adapter screw from Amazon and this nut was slightly larger. I had to enlarge the jaws of the wrench with a file to make it fit this, I also think it was a little easier to engage and disengage the fan clutch while it's on the engine. It's heavy metal so be prepared for some work if you come across the same thing decide to change yours.
