Good price for the headline

In my den I was upgrading an old computer that was getting annoyingly slow so I installed an SSD and decided to increase the storage from 4GB to the max supported 8 GB upgrade. That was a really good price for DDR2 memory, which is hard to come by these days. The existing memory of an unknown brand was DDR2 800MHz, so I decided to stick with the same. After we ran a few wires to make life easier, installation was a breeze. Oddly enough, when I first turned the system back on, it seemed to freeze during the boot process, causing me to say "uh-uh". I just did a hard reset, enabled POST and found that yes, I installed 8GB of recognized RAM. Everything went fine after that, so I'm not sure what the problem was, but it worked fine. All DRAM boards of this type are just outer packaging for someone else's memory chips and they're very small (no fancy covers over the DRAM chips), but the price can't be beat and they've performed well so far. I will update this review if there are any reliability issues.

Pros
  • Useful not just for its intended purpose
Cons
  • too dumb
