Review on Screen Camera Rearview Recorder Reversing by Jennifer Alvarez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

That's good value for me.

I installed this item in a 2016 Ford Escape partly for the perceived safety of recording potential collisions and the like and to use the backup camera as a permanent replacement for the rear view mirror. This device fulfills these wishes well enough for my purposes with limitations. Here's my breakdown: 1) Easy to install. Tying him to a mirror obviously speaks for itself. For my car, the cable to the reversing camera was more than adequate. Routing the power and rear camera cables, as well as routing under the fairings, was straightforward and took about 15 minutes. Hooking up the backup camera to the reverse lights required removing my car's trim, but otherwise it was just as easy. 2) image quality. I'm not an avid videophile, so the resolution of both cameras is more than enough for me. In daylight, both cameras deliver amazing resolution, even my rear camera, which is mounted on the inside of the sunroof and looks out the tinted window. When the backup camera is connected to turn on the backup lights, the camera will switch and display the instructions as intended. That is, during the day. 3) "Night Vision". Both cameras show images taken at night, but the JFC's ringing from light sources is terrible. The backup camera doesn't get a good picture on my city's back streets where streetlights are few; maybe because of the tinted rear window. I'll keep using it as is and I've deducted a star for supposed night vision which I don't actually see with any of the cameras. 4) Touch screen and menu. The screen is very touch sensitive and the menu is easy to understand. With the hardwire kit mentioned below, my default views are not saved when I turn the car off. I use the rear camera as a rearview mirror while driving, but when the car is on, the front camera is shown by default. I just swipe sideways before engaging reverse and the problem is solved. This is really just a nitpick and not a deal breaker for me. 5) Power Cable. This is a gray area and not part of the ranking criteria in my opinion, but it's important to note. If you are going to connect the wire to your vehicle's fuse box with fuse taps, you will need a kit that will accept a 12-24V input and provide a minimum of 5V @ 2.5A output. There are many such kits here, but none of the vendors aren't smart enough to state the amperage as a filter, so you'll probably have to click through a lot of item descriptions to find out that an item doesn't provide enough amperage for that. Device. Wouldn't it be great if this seller included a direct link to such a harness in the product details? 6) Delivery and Settlement. I received someone else's returned item or it was a refurbished item for which I was charged a new price. There was no film on any of the lenses, a microSD memory card with someone's video files and pictures was inserted into the device, there were scuffs on the back of the device from previous assembly and obviously enough time to scratch the case due to vibration . The device also arrived in standard Revain packaging, but with no packaging material, so it was just bouncing around in a big box. I'm lucky that this thing even turned on after such a taunt, which speaks volumes for its ability to survive a crash. I am not deducting the stars as the product generally meets my advertised needs. Generally tl; dr is a good camera, solid buy, don't expect anything like night vision. EDIT 3/24/20 - As mentioned in #6 above, I originally received a used item from Revain's warehouse. It was frustrating, but not so much that I wanted to deal with the hassle of packing everything back up and sending it back to Revain and then waiting even longer for a replacement. The Heibeimiaodou seller read my review, contacted me and apologized for this confusion. A new camera setup was sent to me without my asking. A top notch response from a company that cares about how the customer evaluates their products and services. Now I definitely encourage everyone to buy with confidence; not only because of the opportunity to get a freebie, but also because this seller upholds their reputation. EDIT 8/21/20: I had the 'new' item set after my previous edit. From the time of this edit until recently, everything has worked as we would like it to. I wanted to use this device as my default rear camera, but lately the device prefers to just randomly and endlessly switch between different view modes while driving. Sometimes it loops, sometimes it does what it's supposed to do. Another fun thing about looping is that I can't stop recording or otherwise break the loop without turning off the entire device. It's frustrating and eventually I'll have to replace that element, but I think it was fun while it lasted. I downgraded my rating to 3 stars because the new item didn't even last 6 months without breaking. When installing my own audio, I found that the bottom for this item's power supply had somehow come loose. I re-completed the ground connection with a full ring terminal and found a more stable ground point; Since then, this device has worked flawlessly. It's a shame to blame the product for your mistakes. Once again this is definitely a fantastic camera that meets all my needs.
