I applied this exactly as directed - the film has sticky edges that stick directly to the screen. After about two weeks I found that the pixels on the screen had died where the film was stuck and it has since spread all over the screen. I would advise caution when using this product and am very frustrated that my TV has been permanently damaged and may now need to be replaced.
