Review on Excalibur 9-Tray Electric Food Dehydrator: Faster Drying with 26-hour Timer, Automatic Shut Off and Temperature Settings by Sheila Osorio

I love this food dehydrator! I have a much smaller one that didn't fit much and I found it frustrating to go to the trouble of drying food only to be able to do so little at once, so I took the plunge and bought this Excalibur model. and I'm so happy I made the change. This food dehydrator fits neatly on my kitchen counter under cabinets and has enough power to cook a five-pound bag of chopped potatoes and several trays of other foods at the same time. My other dehydrator could handle about 3 pounds of chopped potatoes at best, so I like a large capacity. I'm new to food dehydration so I'm turning to a book I bought to learn how to properly cook food and how long to dry it. and temperature, then I follow these instructions and so far I've had nothing but success. My other dehydrator had open plastic mesh trays that allowed food to fall through while drying, but that's not a problem in this Excalibur thanks to the polyester tray liners. Now I can grind potatoes and dry them into hash. The shades of brown are always ready to hand without slipping through the sieves during drying. BTW we rehydrated some to see what they look like and they look like freshly grated potatoes. Much healthier for what we intend to do than canned! (Now I have a large All American Pressure Canner that I no longer need) I bought some non-stick liners to use when making fruit bowls but haven't tried them yet. This dehydrator seems to offer much better airflow through the trays than my other one as the veggies dry faster even when set to the same temperature as the other machine. It does produce some fan noise, but nothing that I find uncomfortable. It's easy to use, signals when the time is up and the trays are very easy to clean, so I'm very happy with the purchase. I think small dehydrators are useful for learning how to dehydrate food, but I'd recommend buying this model if you're serious.
