On my last trip south, I trudged through Antarctica with them - and was by no means friendly to them. They worked flawlessly for weeks in temperatures that typically dropped below minus 50 degrees Fahrenheit. They survived climbing jagged pressed ice, long frozen metal ladders, ascending and descending heavy equipment, even "my legs are like jelly, I can't stop it" brushing with sharp crampons. Other - smaller - gaiters failed in much lighter conditions. I will never buy another sock again until OR makes them as good as they do now. Whether you're jogging down a muddy trail or taking your family on an easy snowshoe hike, you have other options. If you're doing something that will make you tell stories when you get old, you have no other options.
