They cannot be held in place
They come with a very small elastic cord with an S hook on each side. When the cover is on the pole, it is not possible to attach the two S-hooks together. Even if they could grab each other's tires, you'd have to get down on the ground and under the car to secure them. A long time ago the wheel covers I had for my van had a built in ring/hoop that would slide off. over and around the tire. It only took 30 seconds to install the covers. With the ones I bought they can't be mounted on and around tires.
