Review on Playskool Lullaby Gloworm: Exclusive Amazon Edition with Soothing Melodies and Glowing Lights by Chase Dunn

My 1 year old son loves his new Gloworm! It quickly became an effective and indispensable part of his bedtime routine. Summary: buy it! Pros: Machine washable. options) - No history of fire/smoke issues - then memory glitches - like a Seahorse competitor - Acceptable battery life (on average 3 clicks a day lasts us about a month) Cons: - No volume control (but does have duct tape on the side of the speakers). , probably to make it quieter - I like it very quiet) - The middle is a bit heavier than I would like due to the jukebox inside. I don't find it any worse than the competition. Long recap: My son has been using Gloworm at every bedtime and before bed for about 2 months and he is just over 1 year old. He had a long history of trouble falling asleep when we put him to bed (and staying asleep at night). I found that when I turned on his portable night light while he was struggling to sleep, it distracted him from his tears and he often fell asleep before it turned off automatically. Unfortunately this lantern is made of harder plastic - I didn't want to leave it in bed with him for him to ride on and when he decided to throw it out of his bed I was afraid it would break. Also, the tiny switch on the bottom means my son can't turn it on himself (and won't for years). All of this prompted me to look for some kind of child-friendly night light with a timer that is activated by a child. Although I've had a quick look at other brands/products, I spent most of my time looking at my top three choices: this Gloworm, Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Seahorse, and Fisher-Price Soothe and Glow Giraffe.1. Why I didn't go with Seahorse: Distrust of Fisher-Price, inability to do a light mode (without music), and 50% higher cost. With most of the reviews on Revain I figured it would be the leader. . Not as much. You may have heard that the old version (3 batteries) of the Seahorse had many instances of melting and smoking in the battery compartment, Fisher-Price chose not to recall it, and then FP quietly pulled it off the shelves (see reviews on Revain and /or Google to find out more). Even though they released a newer version, FP lost my trust because of how they handled the situation. At first I was hesitant to go for the seahorse, but I would choose it if I really thought it was the best option. The deal breaker for me was that you can't just use it with lights (with the music turned off) like you can with Gloworm. Seahorse also costs about 50% more than Gloworm. I would have to feel like I was getting a superior product to justify the extra cost. 2. Why I didn't choose Giraffe: Distrust of Fisher-Price, inability to set light mode (without music), lights go out long before music. I also prefer the long and thin shape of the Gloworm and Seahorse for an easier grip. The price is about the same as Gloworm.3. Update: 4.5 months later we still love it. We only use it for lights now and at some point in the last few months my son started turning it on himself. He especially likes to turn it on when he wakes up in the morning. That gives him enough light to play in his crib until I follow him. Update: He's 22 months old and still loving it! Update 8/12/17: It's been 2 years since my original review and my son just turned 3. He still sleeps with him every night and we still highly recommend him. I recently tried using the music function because he was suddenly having trouble falling asleep.
