I accidentally started opening the door without sounding the alarm and it was quite loud. You have to be very careful when bending over to turn it off first before picking it up, otherwise it will work. I bought them for my apartment and patio door. NOTE: DO NOT attempt to block them. I turned off the alarm so as not to disturb the neighbors and asked my son to break down the door from the outside. On a positive note, he couldn't force the door open when the doorstop was in place. On the other hand, it ruined the one we tested. Every time I try to turn the alarm back on, it goes off right away. So I had to remove the battery and throw it away. I'm glad I only have two doors so I'm still fine.
