Luckily the lid wasn't secured when I first opened the package. This small suction cup can be sharpened with just a few strokes of a knife. The polishing part, well I haven't figured it out yet; but with a razor blade I figured it out in the blink of an eye, and who needs to sharpen it. Another thing is the fit of the cap. I don't understand how a person with small hands could remove this cap without pliers or jamming a screwdriver in the gap between the cap and the sharpener. If you can only do one-arm pull-ups with your thumb and forefinger, you don't need to worry. But most of us cannot perform this miracle. My advice is don't put the cap on all the way unless your name is Jo-Herk. And if it doesn't sit down to the end, what's the point of clogging it up? The cap will most likely fall off when you attach the cord. anything. The tool can be sharpened very well. If you need a fast razor blade this is for you. Who knows? Perhaps seeing enough of these complaints about the lid's fit, the manufacturer is redesigning it. Without the cover I would have given five stars.
