I use this regularly with my LG V30. The Type-C port can only be used to power the phone, you cannot connect any additional components to it. You can connect a regular hub to the Type-A port. I've used this to transfer photos from phone to computer and send photos to Walgreens for printing. Another use is to connect my phone to a TV, which comes in handy when I want to watch Netflix or Hulu on a big display. I only have a 1080p TV so I can't test the 4k aspect of this set. I was also able to connect a replica SNES controller and use it and the SNES 9X app from the Google Play Store to play emulated games on my TV. While it doesn't look as cool as the SNES mini, it can do the same job.
