Review on πŸ”§ Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 300 Liquid Plastic Compound & Mold Star 15 Slow Molding Silicone Rubber: High-Quality Solution for Smooth and Accurate Model Replicas by Denise Davis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

High quality combination of materials

Mold Star 15 can be cast at home without vacuum degassing. Low temperature alloys such as tin-bismuth-tin (58-42) can be poured into a silicone mold because it melts at 281 degrees Fahrenheit (138 degrees Celsius) and solidifies relatively instantly (unlike the large solidus-liquidus range). The softness of silicone makes it suitable for casting objects several inches in diameter. Smooth Cast 300 is a good polyurethane resin for plastic casting. Use gloves, safety glasses in a ventilated area. Watch the video to learn how to work cleanly and mix thoroughly. Note the exact mixing ratios. Once opened, use up containers A and B fairly quickly. Close container tightly. wipe covers. The material easily deteriorates in half a year, especially if it is not kept out of the atmosphere. Do not let small children play with castings as they may contain uncured material unless they have used all advanced mixing techniques (e.g. mixing in a 2nd mixing bucket with a 2nd mixing stick). Work quickly, the material hardens quickly. The curing speed is strongly dependent on the temperature. The ideal temperature seems to be around 20 degrees Celsius.
