Great idea, completely ruined

It seemed like a great idea and I loved it. I'm in an apartment and punching holes with a chisel is quite a noisy operation and these pliers promised a quiet method. As a considerate neighbor, I thought I should give it a try. Unfortunately this was a small mistake. In fact, the product could have been designed to actually work, but unfortunately the quality makes using this tool a bit dangerous. First, the teeth on the teeth are not always straight. This means that a perfectly straight row of stitches (. . . .) will end up looking ugly (. `- .). So the whole *meaning* of using a tool to make holes for the stitches instead of piercing them with an awl is completely eliminated. not necessary), in fact it does not cut through the skin. That's right, a hole punch can't punch holes. It punches most of the hole, leaving about half a millimeter of material that you either have to punch yourself with a second tool (again, what's the point of a hole punch that can't punch?) or you have to hope your needles can do the job and you're strong enough. I chose the latter and injured myself quite a bit while sewing (first injury from sewing). Third, it's covered in rather nasty, smelly grease that's difficult to remove. Since this is for leatherworking it sucks because all that lube will ruin your leather if you don't clean it all up. And since it's steel, it'll rust if you try to do that with soap and water. In summary, this is a great idea, but since they cut almost every corner, not only does it fail in its task. , it will probably cost you even more beyond this purchase. Save time and headaches and just use engraving chisels as you can buy 4-5 different sizes for the price of this non-tool.

Pros
  • The handle is made of black foam, feels good in the hand and is non-slip.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
