Review on Fluval Hagen Sea Calcium Aquarium Supplement by Rudy Allen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great product for mystery snails

Love it! It's a lot easier and less messy than trying to add squid bones or coral. Coral raises the pH, which I didn't want. I prefer to keep the pH around 7.4-7.6 without using buffering agents. At first I was really worried about how much to add. I am adding this to 5 gallon Fluval Spec V. I took the directions on the bottle (for the larger tank) and divided those numbers to get 1.25ml as the 5 gallon starting dose. it increased my gH from about 4-5 to 10-11. Now I just measure my gH after a weekly water change and adjust how much I add. and I was afraid of an overdose. Turns out, calcium overdose isn't too much of a concern. When the water column can't hold more calcium, it begins to "grow" the walls of your tank, the filters. I've been using this for a month and haven't come across it. but I monitor my parameters daily. and I'm not guessing it without reference to gH. My mysterious snail grows and grows. Unfortunately, his bowl wasn't in the best shape when I received it a few months ago. I consider it a salvation. My guess is he was kept in low pH water and didn't have access to enough calcium. since i got it, a very large "new shell" has grown for it. and it looks great! So that tells me something about my decision to buy this for my freshwater aquarium. It was a very wise decision. It's very thick and will fall right to the bottom of your tank when you add it. I pour it into the filter pump section so everything is evenly distributed. or I just pour it in a bubbler. You need to know your growth hormone levels before and after adding this calcium. Just grab the gH set from the API right along with this one. Or better yet, they have a kit specifically for calcium. Some fish don't like hard water. The gH of your water is made up of calcium and magnesium. Maybe you have enough calcium in your water without adding it. You won't know until you check it out. I chose this product because my snail shell looked like this when I bought it. Also, I haven't noticed any change in my pH due to calcium. Test your water! Follow the directions on the bottle for the size of your aquarium. and then adjust that amount when you change water if your gH drops. Everything will be fine. a year when I add this to my 5 gallon tank regardless of dosage I choose for over a year.
