Review on KAMANINA 1 Inch Telescoping Single Drapery Rod, Adjustable 72-144 Inches (6-12 Feet) With Netted Texture Finials In Antique Bronze by Robert Demissie

Revainrating 4 out of 5

These would be 5 stars except for 2 key missing installation instructions

First the good stuff - the rod is well packaged and well protected for shipping. The finish has a nice silver matte look and the rod seems very stable when installed. It also looks very nice for the price.Installation instructions are fairly clear but are missing 2 key bits of information if you are not using the drywall anchors provided. Since wide windows usually have substantial wooden headers behind the drywall, the drywall anchors will not work. What the instructions fail to tell you is that if you are installing into the wooden headers, you need to pre-drill with a 1/8 inch bit and hand drive the screws into the wall. The metal on the provided screws is too soft to self tap into wood, so a power screwdriver will likely strip the Phillips head even with a pre-drilled hole. The instructions only provide the pre-drill information for the drywall anchors (3/16 inch), but nothing about pre-drilling without the anchors. Fortunately, they also provide an extra screw for each pair of brackets, so once I figured out the proper bit size and realized they needed to be driven by hand, the installation was a breeze. I found the 1/8 inch bit drilled to the entire length of the screw allowed me to hand drive the screws without stripping the head and provided a substantial bite to hold the brackets and rod.The 4 brackets come set to the shortest extension from the wall, but it's very easy to reset the extension once you have all 4 brackets installed. Once you identify the extension length needed for one bracket, simply measure the distance from the wall to the end of the sliding portion and set the others to that same length, back out the set screws on each bracket until the end of the screw is flush with the inside of the bracket, and the rod just drops right in. Adjust the rod length, hand tighten the set screws, and you are done.

Pros
  • Looks nice and good quality
Cons
  • The netted texture finials may be difficult to remove or replace
