I've tried using cheaper refill cartridges but the ink either ran out or wasn't "recognized" by the Canon printer. Since then I've been using Canon replacement cartridges all the time. They work very well and offer crisp, clear lettering. While they are running I have a feeling that my Canon model is using too much ink during nozzle cleaning or shutdown cleaning operations etc. I use my printer almost exclusively for documents and am very satisfied with the print results.
