Satisfies a basic need. More of a day package.

Aqua Quest Waterproof Backpack, er, mixed bag (look what I made there?). I made my own experience with it and later put it in the hands of an experienced hiker. It's actually waterproof. There are other ways to waterproof a backpack, but waterproofing a backpack is definitely one of them. This important checkbox is checked. In addition, the weight of the backpack is good. I haven't weighed it exactly, but it meets my very experienced trucker friend's "weight test" standard. The side pockets were quite deep, deep enough for water bottles to fit comfortably and securely. The hip belt was not padded, or at least not sufficiently padded. It's ok for a day trip to a local mountain, but not for long hikes. My backpacker friend (6ft 4in) thought the backpack was a bit small. His wife's height is closer to 5ft 3in and the backpack seemed a little big to him. I've grown in between and found the package to be the right size. The capacity of the backpack (usually measured in liters) was not determined (this does not apply to a week-long trip with full provisions and associated equipment). This Aqua Quest seems closer to the "daypack" classification to me. You can't go wrong. Backpack designed for a quality backpack that you would use for hiking the Appalachian Trail. But going into the mountains for a day or two when the weather is bad also satisfies a basic need.
