I am a carpenter. My favorite tool for sharpening chisels and planes is a diamond stone. While I have no experience with other brands of diamond stones, DMT stones are of high quality. Diamond stones are the fastest, hassle-free, and efficient sharpening system that has worked for me. 6 months after purchasing the 8" medium grit stone I decided to add this double sided coarse/extra fine stone to my line and I am pleased with the results. Superfine is not at the level of highly polished honing, I still use additional honing paste with a leather strap to achieve this. If you're wondering what size to buy, go for 10 inches. This gives you the flexibility you need. I do a walk sharpening with a honing guide to get the exact angle. I do the rest by hand (requires some practice), the plastic back Grinds hard rocks, glad I bought together and have confidence in buying DMT products in the future. I wish they had an 8000 or 10000 grit diamond sharpening stone.
