The stove itself is an enlarged version of Esbit stoves. It opens a little wider than regular small folding stoves, but also adjusts to a smaller opening to accommodate smaller pots or cups. I've used solid fuel pellets, a Trangia spirit stove, and an inch copper pipe filled with alcohol for cooking or boiling water. All of these fuels gave good cooking results. I would suggest you can also burn biofuels like twigs or leaves although I haven't tried it yet. The pot that comes with the stove is large and with the lid closed it will boil water and cook food very efficiently. The kit also included a wood and wax fuel pellet in the shape of a hockey puck. Haven't used this yet, but it looks like each quarter could be cut into quarters and cooked into one meal. There was also a sample bag of dry food. I didn't try it either because I just put it in my emergency bag to use later when needed. All in all this is a great cook set and I would heartily recommend it for camping, power outages or as part of a car emergency kit. I live in Southern California so I might be stuck on the freeway if we ever have the big earthquake that's coming. I remember footage of the last earthquake when cars got stuck on overpasses, and I take comfort in the fact that if that happens to me while I'm waiting for help, I can at least cook food.
