When using this heater make sure you have a thermometer to check the temperature. Another person wrote that you can cook fish in a 1 gallon tank. Real Answer: It depends on the temperature in your house. I use this heater in my 1 gallon battle tank. I put it on the bottom. I keep my house at 70 degrees and the tank heats up to 82, when my house is at 68 degrees the temperature of the tank is 80. You see a trend. So if your house, apartment, or other place where you have a fish tank is around 73-75 degrees, you can expect the heater to heat a 1 gallon fish tank to around 86-88 degrees, which is plenty is too warm. That means my house is 70 degrees and the average water temperature is about 82 degrees. My Betta loves to hide under the heater and then jump to the top of the aquarium and back. If you have a home that maintains temperatures around 73-75 degrees I do not recommend using it with a 1 gallon tank. I think if you were using a 2 or 3 gallon tank this heater wouldn't "betta cook" you like another reviewer said. Just use your common sense and you'll be fine.
