Garbage! - Updated review

UPDATED 6/11/2014 One of the little "metal" zippers broke in half right in my hand! You know that thing you take upstairs or downstairs to unpack? The zipper got caught on something (common) and I pulled on it a bit - didn't even know it COULD break! Torn in half. Garbage! REVIEW UPDATED 6/6/2014 The two zippers I bought fell apart after 1 week of use. DO NOT use them. You can find cheaper ones that are just as ripped. The zipper material is separating from the liner and the zipper itself has come loose from one and cannot be repaired. I used a blue one (another brand) that lasted four months out in the wind and sun and was half the price of these. I will try to get my money back. That ruined my project. I expected more for the high price. I don't recommend it at all. One star for the high price. They are worse than the cheap ones. ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW This thing will stick to anything - not sure why another reviewer said it wouldn't stick. Possibly user error? If you want this zipper to be opaque, you need to install it according to the instructions. However, as with most of these types of zippers, cutting a single slit in the plastic will result in snagging when opening and closing the zipper. If you do a double cut, ie remove all loose plastic, you'll have a much better performing zipper, albeit not as light-tight. In fact, I'm not sure that any of these methods provide absolute light-tightness of the seam. I've used cheaper zippers that seem to have the same level of opacity. This zipper seems pretty strong, but it broke in a few places when I was installing it. I think it's a bit overpriced (I bought it locally for $14) considering it's a bit torn. But now that it's installed I'm happy with it. Probably the best solution. I give it 4 stars, although maybe it deserves a little less. I want to make up for a stupid one star review and there really is nothing better anyway. Sticks VERY well!

Pros
  • Protects against dust, water and light
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
