Difficult connection to my MacBook Pro

This is the most complex viewer that I am having trouble connecting to my purchased Mac. I can plug it in but it doesn't always connect, I have to play with it, wiggle it, take it out and try again until it decides it wants to read my disc. I have 5 slots and they are the same for ALL.
