The thing does what you want. I really don't know what all the bad reviews are about. It captures analog signals and can also capture S-Video. This will not make your home videos 1080p. They end at 720 on the Mac, which is nothing to scoff at. I see mine on a Plex and it works great. If the VHS is older the quality will be lower even if the rendering is 720p. It's not rocket science and doesn't magically work with old VHS tapes. It's just a gripping device. If you want a quality restoration, you need someone to do the Final Cut magic for you. This gets you from point a to point b and then to yourself. I would have spent a lot more on this and now he's been making videos for 3 days with little breaks in between. If the thing doesn't break in a month, it will serve its purpose well. I will update if anything changes.
