The thing does what you want. I really don't know what all the bad reviews are about. It captures analog signals and can also capture S-Video. This will not make your home videos 1080p. They end at 720 on the Mac, which is nothing to scoff at. I see mine on a Plex and it works great. If the VHS is older the quality will be lower even if the rendering is 720p. It's not rocket science and doesn't magically work with old VHS tapes. It's just a gripping device. If you want a quality restoration…

Great device! Works perfectly!

This is amazing. I was a little skeptical that this would work, but felt uncomfortable sending in my irreplaceable VHS tapes to be turned into digital files. It's incredibly easy to use and plays my VHS tapes perfectly. You simply use the supplied red/white/yellow cable to connect it to the output jacks on your VCR and use the other supplied USB cable to connect it from the device to your computer's USB port. Click to select which one you are using, a red/white/yellow cable (or alternatively an

Easy to use, good transmission quality, tech support help

The only problem with this is during setup when it asks for access to your computer's camera without explanation. I said no and that was crucial. It doesn't really need your camera, it needs the video connection that the camera shares. So it didn't work after I said no and I couldn't figure out why. Tech support responded very quickly, I reinstalled and said "yes" and voila! Since then everything has worked perfectly. (They accept my recommendation of explaining and clarifying this strange…

Now works with High Sierra

Took a chance hoping they finally make it usable with High Sierra. When you get it, don't use the disc that came with it, go to the Vidbox website and download the latest driver and software. On the bottom of the VidBox that you connect the camcorder to is the model number. Make sure you download the correct one. However, you will need the original CD that came in the box for the product key that is on the envelope. Once I did all that, it was ready to use. The software crashed once when I…

Just started using it and already noticed some bugs in the program. My biggest downside is that the video captured is choppy and low resolution, it really detracts from the experience and in my opinion not good enough for today's standards or for capturing valuable timeless videos. Playback on the camcorder is very smooth and at high frame rates you can see that the clarity on the Video8/Hi8 tapes is pretty good. But Vidbox's video capture is just below average at close range. The resolution…
