Review on Enhanced Mac Video Conversion: VIDBOX VFM1M (2020) by Michael Barry

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to use, good transmission quality, tech support help

The only problem with this is during setup when it asks for access to your computer's camera without explanation. I said no and that was crucial. It doesn't really need your camera, it needs the video connection that the camera shares. So it didn't work after I said no and I couldn't figure out why. Tech support responded very quickly, I reinstalled and said "yes" and voila! Since then everything has worked perfectly. (They accept my recommendation of explaining and clarifying this strange request in a prepared manual, since there was no mention of the implications of a "no" answer or why they need it.) All that is said now, I have about 20 VHS tapes digitized so far. I just put the tape in my deck, set it up in the program, then hit the record button in the program, hit the play button and the recording continues in the background while I work. You can view the recording progress at any time on the small screen of the software. It is best to use RCA connectors with gold plated spade lugs to maximize connectivity and clarity. There is a composite video jack, but do some research as it's debatable if it will perform better than RCA jacks. You decide. A handy feature is that you can set the recording time according to the length of your input tape. It is digitized in .mp4 format. The only trick is that if you want to edit in QuickTime for example, the .mp4 file will be turned into an "untitled" file immediately after trimming a section, so you have to save it as another file. (I assume this is a security feature so you don't accidentally overwrite what you just recorded.) FYI: 2 hour VHS tape = about 3.25GB as an .mp4 or .mov file. This little converter and software works very well. Well, it does what it's supposed to do: convert your old analog tapes to digital. Of course, for any type of tape, you need any deck that you connect this converter to and after the conversion, you can do whatever you want with the .mp4 files. It just digitizes it and does it well. I didn't have to add that, but there will always be someone who will ask or think it possible, so here I answer: How can you not make a silk bag out of a pig's ear, or squeeze blood out of a turnip, nor squeeze water out of stone, you can't get Hi-Def (HD) video results from 30 year old VHS tapes that were made long before "HD" was even a concept. . You can't get "Hi-Def" from "Low Definition" when it was VHS, BETAMax and all those analog tapes. What you have on tape you get in the digital product as an .mp4 file. No better, no worse. It's not a "magic black box" that turns your ugly, old, faded VHS or Betamax 480p color cassettes into high-resolution 1080p or 4K full-color digital images. digital file format (.mp4) and makes it easy and good. A good product. Highly recommended.
