Standard drafting chairs are not tall enough to stand upright at the desk. Replace the cylinder that came with your chair with this extended cylinder and you can turn any standard drafting chair into a work desk. My desktop is 42 inches tall. I weigh 240 pounds. When I have this cylinder installed, the armrest height is exactly 42 inches when the cylinder is fully extended. The height of the chair has gone from 31 inches (without me in the chair) on the original cylinder to 36 inches (without me in the chair).
