So if you search for docks at Revain you can get a range of "USB-C" docks powered by the DisplayLink chip. That's pretty cool if your laptop doesn't support TB3, but routing video through a separate chip puts an extra load on the CPU as it has to compress the video. I also noticed an odd lag and everything was a bit choppy. I was a little overwhelmed by my perfectly smooth desktop PC. After further research, I found that the TB3 docking station would allow my laptop to take full advantage of the CPU without any additional lag. So far so good, this dock is identical to connecting my monitor directly to a laptop with a 1440p @ 144Hz monitor. Also supports my gigabit internet connection via ethernet with no issues. Everything worked immediately without additional drivers. Be aware that Thunderbolt is pretty finicky and it may take a few tries before your laptop connects or gets power, but that's just the state of the art for now. The cable that comes with it is also short, not sure if this is a TB3 limitation or not but I would do some research before buying a longer cable.
