Here's my story on cleaning sponges and swabs

The pressure on my steel brew was not pressurized. Increased the heat. Eventually the button popped up and we got pressure. But I still have soot on the bottom of the pan. Tried everything. I used sandpaper but I knew it would scratch the steel. A srubit copper pad and LOTS of elbow grease removed the char. I learned about pressure cookers and charcoal sealed as tight as Teflon. No scratch on the steel. Minimal base deformation. And I have 5 more! Highly recommended for industrial charring.
