Review on Exploring Jurassic Treasures: NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Rocks Fossils Kit by Marvin Perry

My children are 11 and 12 years old, a boy and a girl, a complete set. They love polished stones and crystals and anything that looks like treasure. Many of the movies and shows you see have characters searching for gems, crystals and gold, which are very similar to the rocks and minerals in this set. The first impression was a bit dirty. Sand was seeping out of the box everywhere. I don't think there's much of a way around it, but it wasn't a clean or neat experience. It wasn't a big deal, but be aware that it can come with some sand around the box. Opening the box is easy and there are several packages with different types of gems and minerals. The fossils were a big hit with my kids. As an adult, it's easy to forget how magical and amazing a shark tooth was when you were 12, but watching my children, I was able to relive the joy and wonder. The "snail shell" fossil was also a winner - it's filled with some sort of transparent filler and really shows off the beauty of the fossil. My kids loved it too. Geodes hit and miss - because they're real geodes and because they're small, you're going to get a lot of different innards, and not all of them will look great. Again, my kids loved them. For them, they didn't expect dark purple and red crystals to appear - just the sight of an ordinary rock splitting open to reveal the quartz-like crystal inside was outstanding enough to make them happy. I would have liked to see slightly larger rocks and minerals but overall my kids loved this set. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good gift for a child aged 8-12. There is something special about the natural beauty of the earth and these rocks really do give a great idea of how amazing the earth really is, plus my kids love surprises and geodes are as natural for surprise packaging as it gets!
