First I should have looked at the data in the reviews but unfortunately I didn't. So please note that this will be discontinued. This is my first experience with monitor color calibration. I used to only use the old eye method. So everything arrived quickly and reliably, as is usual with Revain. The fun started trying to install software and get Win7 to recognize the hardware - no luck. In fact, two of my antivirus programs detected this software as a threat, which I ignored. After a long search I was able to find an updated software package for Win7. The software installed without any problems, but when you plug the device into the USB port, Win7 doesn't see it. So I just changed the port used and it worked right away. I ran the program following the brief guide. Choose the "Easy" method to try it. This lasted several minutes. The before and after comparison made no noticeable difference. Being old, blind in one eye and half blind in the other, I knew I wasn't very good at measuring the eyeball. So I ran the "advanced" method. Again – this is my first time doing all this, so for some rehearsals I really didn't know what to choose. It took much longer, 15-20 minutes, maybe I didn't keep the time. Ultimately, a comparison made a big difference. It's also noticeably easier on the eyes when reading text. I have two monitors, both ViewSonic but different models. When moving the test image from one monitor to another, the calibrated monitor image was warm, sharp, and deep. Uncalibrated colors were muted and flat in comparison. So the bigger challenge was the printing, so the first thing I need is a calibrator. Using Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 3, I printed onto Epson paper via my Epson R1800. I was pleasantly surprised and happy. The monitor and the printout didn't match perfectly, but they were very close. Miles better than before and a ton better than I was hoping for. The LR3 print was slightly better than the CS3 print, but only after examining both with a magnifying glass. Overall I am very satisfied with the result and the product. Knowing this was a discontinued product, I most likely decided to purchase another product. I give it 4 stars based on that fact and the effort involved in researching and finding updated software. If you're not a pro (like me) but someone who cares and wants the best match between monitor and printer - while saving a few bucks compared to other top-end products, then this isn't a bad choice at all.

Pros
  • Compact colorimeter for emissivity measurements of LCD, CRT and laptop displays
Cons
  • Expensive
