I'm not sure they do anything other than maybe a little grip for less tangled clothes. I still use sheets to dry soft clothes. My other hard round plastic dry balls are noisier and scare my cats at times. Yes they are a bit noisy but my clothes are not "smeared", the towels are just as fluffy and smell nice. I have a dryer that turns off automatically when the laundry dries and there is no difference in the electricity bill whether I use dryer balls or not, the drying time is always the same. I never use dryer balls on my gym clothes, thin work clothes or sweaters. They score for being cuter than regular round dryer balls. I hope this review was helpful to you!
