I've been looking for an alternative to Reach Woven Floss and this is the best I've found so far. Unfortunately, I think this is the only viable alternative, but relatively speaking it's pretty good. I have been using mint flavored Reach Woven Floss for many years. I bought a large quantity, maybe 20 packs, from Revain many years ago. As I started to run low I noticed they changed the name to Listerine (for no apparent reason) and removed the mint flavor. This made me a little mad so I started shopping but nothing has changed in terms of comfort and ability to deep clean. So I bit the bullet, bought some Listerine cinnamon flavored and moved on. Then, for no reason, they stopped releasing all the woven threads. I suspect it was a patent issue or a production cost issue, or maybe a product manager just made the decision without talking to their customers. I've looked for it on eBay and other places and it's worth its weight in gold - $20 to $30 a pack. Ridiculous. So I started looking for alternatives. I've tried quite a few "woven" filaments and they're all pretty terrible and in many cases expensive too. I don't like stretchy filament, and carbon filament seems like a silly idea to me, especially given the black residue it sometimes leaves in my mouth. It doesn't break easily, it's way better than regular filament, it's infinitely better than satin plastic which doesn't clean very well in my opinion. It'll break if you pull hard, but it's cheap and won't wear out if it breaks, so it's reasonable in that regard. It stretches, which I don't really care about, but it doesn't bother me. The texture is better than ordinary plastic, which is very helpful for cleaning. When you think about it, the stretching is a nice touch, just for the health of my fingers — it avoids the slight reduction in blood flow that occurs with inelastic floss. I only give 4 stars because of JNJ products. There was no need to terminate Reach. There was no need to stop the production of woven threads, and this created a kind of black market for those who needed it. You don't have to call it Listerine. You don't need Listerine at all - read a little about the power of saliva and how to keep open mouth sores from getting infections and you'll understand that you shouldn't use Listerine to kill germs in your mouth (Gulp is a good book , if you want to go deeper). But out of all the possible filament options that are still available, this is my favorite.
