myths and facts. understand logistics.

I've been using it for a month now. So far no problems. As everyone has said hundreds of cheaper than what I got from two local Toyota dealers. Here are the myths and facts in a nutshell. You can program the keys to lock and unlock the doors yourself. As many have said, the panic button did not work on either FOBS. Not a deal breaker for me. Don't force programming the chip (transponder) to start the car by programming the doors to open/close confusingly. Two separate things. 2. If your vehicle requires a transponder chip to be programmed to start your vehicle, you have several options. First, you can buy a cable and software (Toyota Tech Stream) to do it yourself. ($30-40 on Revain). If you go this route you should be very tech savvy and need a laptop. The second way is to find a locksmith. I called and found 2 different places. One wanted $90 for a key and the other was $120. Still cheaper than at the dealer. Lowes/Home Depot/Ace hardware no. I took a chance and found a guy on Craigslist who only asked for $50. At first I was skeptical. Thought it was some Russian working for the Kremlin. Well, I was partly right, he was Russian. Nice guy filmed at his house. I made sure to tell someone where I am and when they expect me, just in case :) It took 15 minutes and he also cut out the key. He checked it several times before I left. $35 for two FOBS, $100 for both programmed keys. Only $135. Listed at dealers for around $250-350 (for ONE). It will take you several times to program the doors. You have to do it EXACTLY as he says. Read through the instructions several times beforehand. How do you know if you need a transponder programmed to start your car? If you see a flashing security icon on your dashboard, you need to complete this step. My understanding is that most post 2007 RAVs will need this. You can call your dealer and they can tell you based on your VIN number.
