I'm a tall guy and I walk a lot. I've been through many, many pairs of shoes. Whatever soles they have for these shoes, they should be used in all their styles because they offer the best of everything I've tried. I've read other people's bad reviews and I think they had a bad experience and it's legitimate, but I found them to be durable not just on the sole but on the upper as well. And above for comfort. I walk in Seattle, so the waterproofing of a pair of walking shoes is vital. Although they are quite open in design, they are not bad: good in light to moderate rain, not so good in heavy rain. Yes, they untie fairly easily, but a double knot will help. The heel tends to crack and get lumpy as you stuff your foot into it, so using a shoehorn or something for that matter is highly recommended. They're not cheap, but I think they're very useful. I will buy myself a new pair. My old ones are still fine but I'm afraid Rockport will discontinue them for fashion reasons and I want to make sure I have a second pair.
