This is our third type of summer gate for children and overall we were the least impressed. Some important points: - Seems to be pretty solid. We haven't had it that long so I'm not sure how it will hold up over time, but I'm not worried about our little one knocking it over. The lock is not easy to open, so it will take our little one a long time to figure out how to open it. We bought it for safety reasons so overall it's positive but it's still an issue for a commonly used track. I think it will take some time to figure out how to open our other gates, but we're locking/unlocking this one much quicker. The spot on the tree is very reddish, larger than what is shown in the picture. It's not my first choice, but it's not a cost factor. The only real advantage of this gate compared to other gates we have is that there is no horizontal bar on the ground. If you are not used to it, there is a risk of tripping over the rung, especially at the top of the stairs. Installation was a huge pain, much more difficult than other gates we own. Overall worth considering the price and hassle of returning but I definitely won't be buying again
