Review on πŸŽ€ Premium 1/4'' Ispie Rayon Raffia Ribbon Crochet Yarn - 100-Yard Pearlized Red Diamond: Superior Quality for Exquisite Crafts by Angela Rodriguez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Suitable for knitted bag

I don't usually write reviews but since there are so many questions about this ISPIE yarn I think I can share my experience and help you in your decision making. I bought four different colors (ice pink, ice purple, ruby and light) to crochet the bag. The texture of the yarn is more like plastic than paper, so it can be somewhat waterproof. Overall the quality was better than I expected and I will probably buy again for another project. Here are the pros and cons. Pros: 1. It has a soft texture so your fingers won't hurt after hours of crocheting. Nice range of bright colors. However, I think Revain only offers a smaller proportion (and mostly metallic colors) compared to retailers in Asia. There are also some interesting matte colors but I can't find any sellers in the US.3. You can iron it to flatten/reshape.-------------------- ------------ -- --- --------------------------------- ------------------------- -- --- ----------- Disadvantages: 1. Easy to break. I accidentally snapped or "punctured" the yarn with a crochet several times.2. Unstable quality. 1 out of 5 skeins I bought had black spots on the yarn. The stains look like black ink and can be partially rubbed off with fingernails. This is quite worrying, especially for me with lighter colored yarns.3. I really hope they can turn into inner packaging. As you can see from the product image, the yarn end starts outside the cone, so the cone is constantly rotating during operation. I know it's doable because I've worked with Japanese brand raffia yarn with inner winding.

Pros
  • Biodegradable, breathable. Can be used to knit baby hats and bags.
Cons
  • Very Expensive
