See attached photo. ROYAL PX1201. My comments below relate to the following 3 points: 1. How to permanently eliminate engine overheating. 2. How to prevent engine overheating. 3. How to drastically improve duty cycle. I am sharing this information with you in hopes that it can save you. some time. I purchased this unit from Costco about 6 years ago in 2010. This device works well today, except that its motor is inaudible and automatically shuts off due to overheating. ROYAL PX1201 Model number: PCUA: 29127H-FE; Lot No. 111155925. I had to open the motor housing several times to clean and cool it. Note that the manufacturer's recommended duty cycle is ON = 6 min / OFF = 30 min. Nobody I know has 30 minutes to take care of a shredder. In thermal shutdown mode, the motor did not rotate in either direction. Today I modified the ROYAL PX1201 by adding an external 12V DC computer fan to cool the motor. 3.25" round hole on the top of the shredder, on the top right next to the paper feed slot: ____OOutside air from the room is continuously and uninterruptedly supplied to the engine case and gearbox. The paper feed slot allows hot air to escape. The fan is a general PC plastic fan: DC 12V, 0.12A=120mA, XYZ=72*72*20mm; diagonal = 101mm (hole to hole). The cost of the fan is about $5, and the power supply to the fan was a separate 12V DC adapter. Didn't have time to electrically connect the fan to the shredder's internal power supply. Today I used the shredder continuously for 8 hours without overheating or thermal shutdown. TEN 13 gallon plastic bags filled with shredded paper/hand pressed confetti. 8 hours without a break.
