Review on πŸ“ž AT&T CL4940 Corded Standard Phone: Answering System & Backlit Display in White by Vera Hernandez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Overall it's good - just two minor annoyances

Bought an AT&T phone with answering machine over a year ago. In general, the autoresponder works well, but it has two annoying features. We have more than one phone in our house. If you answer a call on another phone, the answering machine shows these calls as "missed calls". The second annoyance is that it doesn't seem to be able to handle Daylight Saving Time. Even if I correct the time manually, it resets to the wrong time. So within half a year phone calls are displayed as 1 hour. I read the manual to find out how to change this and couldn't find it. If anyone reading this review knows how to respond to Daylight Saving Time I would greatly appreciate advice on how to do this. On the plus side, the display is large and clear. The screen is backlit (please note that the dialpad is not backlit). The backlight turns on when you receive a call or press any key. The voice on the phone is loud and sounds good. This also applies when you use the hands-free system. I've been told that my audio is crisp and clear even when using the speakerphone. When a message is waiting, a button flashes to indicate that the message is waiting. The manual says you can also set the beep to indicate message waiting, but we don't use that option. The answering machine is easy to turn on and off (the button that lights up when the answering machine is on). I have a caller ID. So when a new call comes in, I see the phone number and name displayed on the screen (it's not spoken by voice, just displayed). I use this phone as a wall phone. I like the way the mount is designed - it's easy to hang and the phone protrudes slightly from the wall. The phone has a special latch that makes it good as a wall phone. Messages and greetings are digitally recorded on the internal media. Recording my own greeting was easy. This phone comes with a power adapter, but it is actually possible to make calls during a power outage. The power comes from the phone line itself, so it's limited to making and receiving calls. Other functions are not available if you have no power. I have to reset the time after a power outage, but my pre-programmed speed dial numbers are NOT lost. Aside from the two downsides I mentioned at the beginning of the review, the phone has a lot of good features that I like. Review by Ali Julia
