JUST WON YOUR STEP.?

Joyce's albums just keep getting better and better - most artists (quite naturally) show signs of diminishing energy or creativity levels after 30 years or more in the business. Joyce seems to be getting stronger and her penchant for innovation doesn't give up. This is simply one of their best performances. Joining Joyce on this recording is Norwegian keyboardist Bugge Wesseltoft, as well as some of the finest musicians her fans have come to know and love: the ubiquitous, incredibly talented and tasteful Tutti Moreno on drums; Teco Cardoso on flutes and saxophones; Naylor Proveta on alto clarinet and saxophone; and the long-awaited return of Rodolfo Stroetter on acoustic and electric bass. Robertinho Silva completes the ensemble with skillful touches of various percussion instruments. Your game fits together like the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle - like elements of a painting that cry out to be together and create a whole that is truly "greater than the sum of the parts". All tunes here were written or co-written. Joyce, with three notable exceptions: Stroetter's Gallop (which he dedicated to Tutti Moreno), Paul Mirsaki's L'etang, and Lennon and McCartney's version of A Hard Day's Night, which will take your breath away. Joyce's compositional skills continue to develop and grow, and that's wonderful. This shows that she still loves her job with body and soul and is committed to it with all her strength. Her formulations are perfect and completely natural - nothing feels forced or sweet. This aspect alone makes her music enjoyable to listen to and combined with her sense of melody, rhythm, innate ability and need to "push boundaries", she entertains and delights her listeners with the ways she pushes them leads down. .There are both slow melodies and incendiary melodies here - a mixture of rhythms, tempos and moods is perfectly constructed. The band plays with feeling and precision but never so precise that they sound like a machine. This is the music of humanity. Two instrumentals are included, both composed by Joyce, and they are incredible. "For Hall" is her homage to legendary guitarist Jim Hall, of whom she says "...one of my biggest inspirations for guitar playing"; "Pause, please" is dedicated to the big band WDR from Cologne. Her wordless singing on this track is amazing - what an arrangement! This is the perfect album for fans of Brazilian music - or for beginners. This is one record you can't be without - HIGHLY recommended.
