Review on Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt Docking Station + 180W AC Power Adapter (130W Power Delivery) by Jimmie Trotto

Mostly good best docks

I had a Dell WD15 dock that I used with my 3 year old XPS13 for a few years. Over the last 6 months I've been trying to replace the Dell with a Surfacebook 2, a couple of HP Specter X360's and a couple of Surface Pro 7's but it all came back due to my issues with docking stations and setting up multiple monitors as needed in my office. None worked with WD15. I chose the Surface Dock 2 for the last Surface Pro I tried and it had its issues. I had both a Wavlink for HP and a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 dock, both had issues. So I decided to keep my XPS13 and my old dock for now. But after all these tests, the old docking station had problems showing displays. So it's time to replace it. I was hoping it would work fine with my Dell and for the most part it works. It was reliable with this WD15, never had a problem, but with this new one I had to cycle the dock a few times to get it working again. It has an updated firmware, but several times when I plugged it in, I had no monitors and a warning appeared on the computer that despite the fact that my laptop is connected to the mains, my laptop is not charging due to lack of food . Given the size and power of the PSU, I found this a bit annoying. But most of the time it works, about 95% of the time. A quiet fan noise can be heard from time to time, but this is mostly lost in the ambient noise of the office. place here. One of my favorite parts is the USB-C power cable as it's more flexible than any other dock I've had. So it flexes and I have no problem aligning things easily depending on where my laptop is on the table. Even the WD15 dock was a much stiffer cable and needed to be in a specific spot to get the cable properly where it belongs. I have a 4k monitor via Displayport and a 27" QHD monitor via HDMI. And apart from a few random spots where they didn't show up in the plugin, they seem fine. It's a bit pricey compared to the alternatives, but after all the issues I've been having with docks lately, I just wanted something that would allow me to reuse things and not spend all my time troubleshooting , as with Wavlink, which I've tried.
