OK. After years of only using cell phones, we figured it would be fun to get a retro phone with a pop design when we go back to landlines. I loved the idea of this yellow phone - I like the company's other colors too, but that splash of yellow should have been like a lemon in the gray and teal spaces - it should have been good punctuation. And it was an old school phone that my kids/husband couldn't lose around the house like back when we had cordless phones. Pooh. 1) This is not the yellow color in the photo. They describe it as mustard, fair game. It's a really bad mustard color, neither lemony nor sunny. Imagine a mango crossed with French mustard and then make it look ugly. In truth, if they had gone any further, it might have turned out to be a beautiful organic color; Anyway, it's just depressing and unattractive. 2) Then there are design issues. a) The phone is longer than the pocket phones I grew up with so it's just not the right size so you can't balance it with your chin on your shoulder. Worse, the mouthpiece has a raised rounded ridge that could end up smacking you in the face if you try this. This is really a minor complaint; It wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the sheer volume of complaints. POSITIVE: The phone has good sound, both the clarity of audibility and the fact that the interlocutor can hear you. b) Can you see the circle in the middle of the buttons? Swipe it down to redial the last number dialed. Move it up and it will dial 911. Since it's a rocker switch, it's very easy to press it wrong. Yes, the police called us a couple of times for bogus calls to the police. Yes, they actually came to the house once to make sure we were okay. My kid is now horrified by that central button. c) A high tech tool you may not know you will miss: I thought I wouldn't care that I don't have caller ID but it hurts when I can't see who's calling or not can show recently missed calls. Calls. However, I ended up keeping the phone (although it doubled my cost as I still had to buy a full set of 3 remote phones, full tech phones from vtech for the same price as this phone), so SOME BENEFITS: 1) I * *REAL** love that this company has made these vintage phones affordable. I think I'd prefer gray or green, but while I don't like yellow, I still like the option of having a retro-style phone. Each of their color options offers an opportunity to elevate a space with the iconic shape of a phone, and that design aspect is essential. Black or red would also be very classic. 2) In a family with busy boys and a scattered partner, I *REALLY* love having a phone in the house plugged into the cord so no one can get in and out. under the sofa or in the garage. Also, since we live in a hurricane zone, the idea was to have a low-tech wired phone that would still work if the power went out. This phone will do - except our phone line goes through our cable company, so (raise your head if that applies to you) we had no line if the power OR the cable went out. 3) The sound quality is very good. A simple necessity, but you know it's important if you have cordless phones or cell phones with the occasional static connection - this phone has consistently good sound. 4) The bell has a pleasant ringing tone - not too loud and not too soft. With all of this I would still order a phone from this company, just most likely in a different colour. The phone is of good quality. It's solid, solid plastic, not a tacky kid thing. The keys feel solid.
